Your IP address, network (ASN) and country
See the public IP, network operator (ASN) and country your traffic exits from.
What it detects
Every request you make leaves from a public IP address — the address servers use to send data back to you. From that IP we also derive the ASN (the Autonomous System Number identifying the network operator, such as your ISP or your VPN provider’s hosting company) and the country the IP is registered to.
We read these at the edge of our own network as your request arrives, so they reflect the exit point your traffic actually uses right now. With a VPN active, that exit is the VPN server — not your home connection.
Why it matters
Your IP and ASN are the most visible thing about your connection. Websites use them for geolocation, access control and fraud scoring. If you run a VPN to change your apparent location, the IP, ASN and country shown here should match the server you chose — not your real ISP.
A residential-looking IP blends in; an IP registered to a hosting or datacenter ASN is easy for sites to flag as a VPN or proxy.
How to read your result
Check that the country matches the VPN location you selected. If it still shows your home country, your VPN may not be routing this browser’s traffic.
Look at the network/ASN name: a consumer ISP suggests a residential exit, while a cloud or hosting provider name signals a datacenter IP that services more readily treat as a VPN.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my IP address personal data?
- Under the GDPR a public IP can identify you, so it is treated as personal data. We store it only at the network level with a short retention window and never build a personal profile — see the privacy policy.
- Why does my country look wrong?
- Geolocation is derived from IP registration data and can lag reality by weeks, especially for VPN and mobile ranges. A small mismatch is normal; a mismatch with your chosen VPN location is worth investigating.
- What is an ASN?
- An Autonomous System Number identifies the network that announces your IP to the internet — your ISP, mobile carrier, or your VPN provider’s hosting company. It is a strong hint about whether an IP is residential or datacenter.
